To help you and your family members lead healthy lives, Mercy Hospital of Folsom offers a variety of educational programs and services. Please join us for any of the classes listed that meet your specific needs. Unless otherwise noted, classes are offered in the Willow Creek Medical Office Building at 1580 Creekside Drive, Suite 120, Folsom.

ADULT HEALTH

 

Stress Management Retreat for Women
It’s no secret. Women today juggle more demands than ever and have unique needs for stress relief. At this daylong retreat, you will learn to apply practical principles and simple guidelines to help you experience:

  • more energy
  • better health and wellness
  • better sleep
  • stress reduction
  • fewer illnesses

We will discuss diet and exercise, vitamins, minerals and herbs, meditation, creativity and new ways of looking at the world. Learn a step-by-step plan to create new habits that become part of your overall lifestyle. Whether your objectives are to eat better, lose weight, reduce stress, age gracefully or reduce the risk of disease, you’ll find the tools, advice and support you need to achieve optimum health for your mind, body and spirit. Wear comfortable, loose clothing. Lunch will be provided.

Advance Health Care Planning
What are your wishes for care and treatment? For anyone age 18 and over, if you were to experience a health crisis and were unable to speak, who would speak for you? Join Chris Evans, RN, MSN, to discuss advance health care directives. The program includes information on physician orders for life-sustaining treatment (POLST), a packet for advance healthcare planning, and time for questions and answers.

The Caring Center
The Caring Center provides a wide variety of treatments, including Healing Touch, Therapeutic Touch, massage, cranio-sacral therapy, reflexology, reiki and Bowen therapy.

Cancer Support Groups
Mercy Hospital of Folsom offers free weekly cancer support groups for our community members who are coping with cancer. Facilitated by an experienced health care professional, the groups are for people with cancer and those who love and support them. Individuals with any type of cancer and at any stage are invited to attend. For more information about the support groups, call Jonathan Hake, MD, at 916.390.2661.

CHILDBIRTH EDUCATION

Childbirth preparation classes are held multiple times throughout the year. For more details and available dates, call Mercy’s Expecting the Best program at 916.614.2229.

Anesthesia Options
Learn about the use of regional anesthesia for pain relief during labor and the anesthesia options available for cesarean birth.
Fee: Free

Baby Basics (Baby Care)
In this class, participants will learn about newborn care, including feeding, dressing and comforting. A bath demonstration is included.
Fee: $30 per couple

Great Expectations (Childbirth Preparation)
These classes help prepare women and their partners for the experience of labor and birth. Topics include the birth process, medical procedures, and relaxation and breathing techniques.
Fee: $75 per couple

Moveable Feast (Breastfeeding)
Learn about breastfeeding advantages, techniques, family adjustments, and dealing with difficulties and concerns.
Fee: $30 per couple

Stork Tours
Take a tour of Mercy Hospital of Folsom's Family Birth Center.
Fee: Free

Baby & Me (New Mothers' Support Group)
This ongoing group helps new mothers learn about themselves, their new roles, and how to cope with the changes and challenges new mothers experience. All new moms are welcome.
Dates and time: Wednesdays, 10–11:30 a.m.

DIABETES EDUCATION

If you or a family member has been diagnosed with type 1 or type 2 diabetes, we invite you to attend our informative two-part series. Please call for registration and course fee.

Learning the Tools to Manage Blood Sugar (Part 1)
Our diabetes nurse educator and dietitian will discuss ways to help you manage your blood sugar, understand diabetes and recognize its effects. Learn guidelines for exercise, medications and meal planning. Registration is required. No doctor referral necessary.

Diabetes: Beyond the Basics (Part 2)
This class helps you monitor your blood sugar as well as develop individual exercise and meal plans. Registration is required. No doctor referral necessary.
